With home prices creeping upward in various US metro areas and the housing market tightening up in places like Manhattan, San Francisco and Portland it's a rare occurrence to find an affordable home let alone one with a view. So what do you think it would cost to live on the 18th floor of a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom 1350 SQ FT condo in downtown Portland OR? Not as much as you would think.
Maybe this wide screen view will reign in your guesses. This condo is listed for $380K. My friend just bought a condo with half the SQ FT on the 4th floor of a new development for $290K.
Do the math.
I wasn't looking in that area to find a home but holy fucking shit, I'd feel like an idiot not to buy this gorgeous 18th floor downtown 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo and pay any loans off by renting it out, especially with so many new companies moving to Portland. I'd take out that carpet, put in wood floors and update the bathroom, if the building would allow it. I could probably resell it for 200k over the listing price in 18 months with the recent comps.
What do you guys think though? Is it worth it to drop 380K to live so close to other people? Or would you rather spend 380K on a large house with a yard/property in the suburbs/county?

Land, cabin, shop, peace, quiet, no neighbors, and freedom of firearms.

Well, i live in those kind of place, so as long as i don't have kids yet ifor me it's okay.
But when i have a kid, i want a house with some yard in it so i could play some things with my kids.

That seems like a deal, if that is what you are looking for. I have only been to Sportland 3 or 4 times. Seems like a real nice city. I'm not a guy who would appreciate that, though. I live in the city, with just under an acre lot. I still feel caged. But, I also see the advantage of living here as opposed to moving out 30 or more miles.

Yes I don't have any kids yet either but I am 30 and I do have a serious girlfriend. She pretty much already vetoed me on getting this place

Call me crazy, but I don't think I'd like not having neighbors.
My fondest childhood memories involve hanging out with other friends in my neighborhood and playing sports, video games, racing bikes, water gun fighting, sledding, building dams in the creek, etc.
I wouldn't want to deprive my future kids of that.

I had friends within a mile, but my neighbors next door when I was growing up set 7 acres of our land on fire. So I was close enough to friends, but it would have been great if I didn't have neighbors.

Hey Liquid. I don't mean to hijack a thread not about cars, but I wanted to ask you a question about your Copart exploits. I saw you sold one of your cars within 3 hours of buying it. Can you explain how you get around the title issues? If the title is being processed in your name how do you sell to a new buyer? Also, do you have any tips on choosing a car to go after when searching through Copart's database?
Thanks.

When you buy a copart vehicle you're immediately given a title at the time of picking up the car (the lot will specify what title, if any). As far as searching through coparts myriad of filter options I would suggest the following.
Look under miscellaneous and click the following filter items.
Pure Sale
Runs and Drives
This will give you a quick list of running cars being sold without reserve. These are the cars where there's a profit to be made. Good luck, let me know of you have any other questions.

Thanks for the info. Now I just have to figure out how to get around needing a license in Texas.

I think there may be a check box for non licensed required vehicles. Also, you can have the car shipped to you from another state if its something you're really interested in.
